I agree with Jonesy, the stereo decoder module is known to go bad due
to leaking electrolytic caps on this module. It is located on the board
you pulled, and is easily desoldered. You should see where the caps
have leaked on the PC board. The sound is usually distorted though, but
I guess a complete loss isn't out of the question. I just replaced this
module on the exact same set, and it works fine now (still have
vertical problem though). I bought my module from Union electronics.
