Re: Philips 27PT830H problems

This set is a 4:3 HDTV set 27".

It has been working perfectly for about a year though the HDTV picture
with component input is all messed up, not sized correctly. Its too
big for the screen and the sides arent straight.

For 4:3 viewing non HDTV channels using the other inputs which give it
a full screen picture it was fine.

However I then moved the TV which is quite heavy into another room.
Doing so seems to have damaged something. The immediate effect was
that it constantly died ---- the picture and the power button which is
lit would blink on and off . According to some posts this means call a
repairperson. After repeatedly plugging it in and out it would work
sometimes for a few min or seconds and then die and blink. Sometimes
it would work for an hour. Another problem was that now the regular
4:3 picture not the HDTV mode --- was a bit too big for the screen ,
overscanning. The boundary of the picture was off the screen at the
edges.

I took the back off and found two of the mounts , really plastic hooks
on the main circuit board at the bottom the case were broken off.
Additionally theres a thick wire thats taped around the back of the
tube. At the bottom the tape had gotten loose and the wired was
dangling resting on a coil on the circuit board.

I glued the mounts back on the circuit board and retaped the wire back
on the TV tube away from the small coil. After that it seemed to work
It worked for two days with no problems except that it was still
overscanning -- too large. However today the person using it tells me
it did start blinking again after dying. However after turning it on
it has worked again for several hours last night.

Any clue to the cause? The cost? And where can I get the service code
to fix the overscanning problem and also the mess of a HDTV picture
which it came with?

continuing to use this set despite the fault condition is a VERY bad
idea. There is clearly a bad solder joint somewhere or some other
component at fault causing the intermittent symptoms. You are
stressing components by using it. From the tone of your post I gather
you have little experience with this sort of work. Do yourself a favour
and get it seen to by a tech before you end up having to pay a much
bigger repair bill!
