Veiwsonic P775 17 inch monoitor w/ black screen

i have a 17 inch Viewsonic that only displays black.
it recognises the PC input cause the front LED changes colour
before opening it up, is it worth the effort? is there something fairly
simple that it could be or am i looking at HV failure?
