I have not worked on your model, but check the sensor for the tape
record protection. It is possible that the unit thinks that the tape is
protected from being recorded to. Other than that, if must be a
connection somewhere. Or, you may have to have the unit properly
troubleshooted to find out what the failure is causing the fault.
If it's going into record mode and recording video but not audio then surely
it can't possibly be the record protection sensor/switch?
It's probably a lifted solder pad on one of the connectors, a cracked ribbon
cable or similar fault.
