I got a used 1992 Phillips 21" set. Set it manually to channel 73
for Dish
Network, to replace a smaller set at the same RF connection. It
worked normally with Dish Network, where the remote changes
channels. Turned it off, still plugged in and connected to Dish
Network.
Next day, turned it on, it did not retain the previous channel 73
setting,
had defaulted back to channel 2.
The smaller older set was a 1985 Toshiba, but it retains the last
channel setting used, like any other TV I've used.
Is there a problem with the Phillips, or is this common in newer
sets?
Should come back on with the channel it was shut off with unless you
unplug it or lose your power otherwise so no it's not normal.
Very common for the backup battery to fail on old Philips sets. Just
replace it.

I doubt my 1985 Toshiba has a battery.
