Quick check would be to use a flashlight to determine if you still have an active video on the display. You will be able to see the video changes but the image will appear as a shadowy effect. Then you know the display is probably good and either the invertors and/or backlight are the problem.
From your discription, it sounds as if you diagnosed it correctly, withouthaving manufacture information however may make it a problem to obtain servie related parts.

Hi
First off, I think this website has very insightful information on
it. I am just hoping that someone out there can help me.
Here goes :
I have a 30" LCD TV/PC Monitor. I would tell you the name of it. But
it has NO marks on it to tell me who the manufacturer is. I have
disassembled ( I have some electronics knowledge and friends that have
more) I have looked at the logic board ( tried to Cross reference the
P/N to no avail), as well as the Inverter Board (HIU-550), and the
Power Supply (RL Power Supply Model # RL9802SC). At any rate, here
is my problem:
When you turn the unit on everything works fine for about 5 sec.
After which time the backlight goes out, but the audio is still
working. If you change the channel the backlight will turn on for 5
sec and then shut off and stay off until u change a channel ( with the
audio still going) When this happens ( from the time u turn it on to
the time that the backlight goes off) a buzzing can be heard from the
power supply. After which time the buzzing stops and the backlight
goes off(but there is still 4V going from the logic board to the
inverter ( if you unplug that cable the backlight does not turn on at
all). Here is my questions. I am not sure if it is the Power Supply
that is bad or the Backlight inverter. The power supply I have been
told can be rebuilt for about $150 bux and still waiting on a callback
about the inverter being rebuilt ( they are saying around $100-$200).
Being a college student and on a fixed budget I was wondering if I
could get any insight on troubleshooting to determine if it is the
Power or backlight board. I am going to imbed pictures into this post
to give as much information as possible. I do not have the finances
to pay for a rebuild of both pieces and would like to be bale to make
a decision on which is to be rebuilt. Here are the pictures of the
unit ( maybe someone out there can identify this TV, also ;)
My somewhat educated "guess" would be the inverter is making the buzzing
noise and is at fault. I would think if an individual told you that the
SMPS and inverter can be rebuilt they would have some inkling as to who
manufactured your set.
