San Jose Mercury news is publishing this slight typo this morning
about Toshiba's new fuel cell.
"Toshiba says it has developed a new, more slender type of battery for
portable audio players, mobile phones and a whole range of electronic
devices. The prototype for a compact fuel cell battery is about as
long and wide as a woman's thumb, weighs a mere 8.5 grams and holds 20
hours' worth of charge.
"It produces 100 megawatts of power by creating a chemical reaction
between methanol and oxygen within the battery cell."
ZDNet, with a more credible article, says the Toshiba version will
deliver 100 milliwatts for 20 hours given a 2cc shot of methanol.
Sounds good to me.
Here's what Reed Electronics says about MTI's version:
"MTI claims that, for a given volume, the fuel-cell-based power source
provides runtimes two to 10 times longer than those of a conventional
battery—along with instant "recharging" by replenishing the methanol"
