"Where the Space Shuttle Main Engine has a specific impulse, a measure
of efficiency, of 455 seconds, and nuclear fission could reach 10,000
seconds, fusion could provide 60,000 to 100,000 seconds, and
matter/antimatter annihilation up to 100,000 to 1,000,000 seconds."

Woowwww! That's making the solar sail concept sound like 'old hat' and
we've yet to launch the first of those into space...
The Planetary Society is hoping to be the world's first with hopefully
a launch in the not too distant future of Cosmos 1:-

I think the NASA matter/anti-matter propulsion concept will closely
follow behind solar sailing - if solar sailing indeed takes off. But
they work on entirely different thrust mechanics and the anti-matter
idea is probably still only *theoretical* for the foreseeable future.
