Here's the teaser available online to non-subscribers in the
9/25/04 issue of Science News, p198...
"Deep Squeeze: Experiments point to methane in Earth's
mantle
Although today's fossil fuel reserves reside in Earth's
crust, a new study suggests that hydrocarbon fuel might also
nestle deep in the mantle, at depths of 100 kilometers or
more."
Research shows CH4 can be formed under the deep, hot
conditions in the crust, but no one knows yet how much may
be there..
Well, at least it's an improvement over being impossible.
Stay tuned.
