Wow. Good points so far. There is a lot of wide open space in North America. I
cant believe all the arable land is full of asphalt and people already. Arent
we still subsidizing small farmers to grow or not grow various crops like
tobacco? Lets cut off the tobacco subsidies and switch the subsidies to
sunflowers.or sugarbeets or something that produces oil or ethanol. OK, lets
say we do this in a crash 5 year program. Now project fwd 5 years.... Has the
price of domestic biodiesel come down? Has the price of imported oil gone up?
At some point soon this will be economically feasible. Now how about cost per
mile? For a land vehicle, I'd say the figure of interest is btus per lb, rather
than btus per cuft... I dont know why....I guess all the biofuels we are
talking about have about the same density.... anyway, if the cost per gallon
was a little less at some point, but the miles per gallon was a little less dur
to less energy content, we would still be at an economic break even point. Now
how much land does it take to reduce Saudi oil imports to zero?? Our dometic
production is 5% or something of our current needs.... but subtract land
transportation from that demand and maybe domestic oil production would satisfy
100% need. Keep those figures coming in.....
