If coal generates electricity at five cents per kilowatt hour and the amortized costs of the solar panels are five cents per kilowatt hour, the net energy from the coal pays for the panels.


For zero net gain.

All the magic "dollar per watt" level for pv does is make an elaborate smoke and mirrors transfer scheme with no net gain whatsoever.

For pv solar to become a viable net energy source, an installed cost down around fifteen cents per watt will be needed.

Anything higher is in no manner renewable nor sustainable.
And certainly not green.
