Excellent suggestion, thanks Don. NOAA National Weather Service is
another possiblity.
NWS has some excellent data on their website, including fire warning
data, however their long term temperature records are non on line.
For a starting location, I've selected the NWS facility at North
Platte, NE, but I'm assuming that their records may not extend back as
far and I need. I'm emailing North Platte to ask what information they
can provide, hoping that this will provide me with a start. I've
selected Nebraska because of its location almost the center of the US
and far removed from localized coastal weather effects, although any
location in mid-America will suffice for my purposes.
I'll eventually need data from Europe, Africa, South America, etc., but
I suspect that long term data from these locations will be far harder
to obtain because I first need to learn the appropriate agencies to
contact.
Kindest regards, Harry C.
