Graham, I only wish it were a big Goose Egg. Sadly it isn't.
You have to realize that some folks are emotionally attached to a
belief in global warming and the horrors that it would cause were it to
actually exist and go unchecked. Evidently I've offended some of these
'true believers' simply to suggest that some sort of a 'sanity check'
is in order...hence the emails. Graham, note that I don't post using my
current email address, because of bad past experiences with those that
took exception to one of my posts disputing the future potentials of
Unix or one of its clones on a softare newsgroup. I don't need to go
into the details, but if suffices to say that lacking an informed
opporition, that mailbox was driven off of the planet with spam...often
filling the mailbox every 10 minites.
It suffices to say that my email address and even my local telephone
number are easily obtained through a search, as are likely yours.
Evidently several folks here have taken exception to my legitimate
research activities and gone through the trouble of actually searching
out my current email address, hhc3141@xxxxxxxxx, to protest my research
activities. Actually 12 emails from 4 different individuals so far. Not
a problem, since I have a 2 Gbyte mailbox. All so far have been flames
of a sort. None wishing in any way to see either a vindication or
refudiation of the global warming beliefs or dogma.
I have no doubt that the abuse will get worse, because some of these
people are putting my posts into the ultra-hard-core global warming
newsgroups, whose members take emotional exception to anyone demanding
to see a scientific based, quantitative justifaction for their nearly
religous beliefs. You get the same response if you post anything
resembling scientific curiousity into the true believe dens of the UFO
people, psychic fans, conspiracy theory, or other fringe .alt
newsgroups, which I have learned to stay well away from
Graham, I originally posted a simple request on this newsgroup,
although it was a bit off topic, and received several excellent and
constructive suggestions. I think it is safe to say that all of the
email I have received has been from members of some of the fringes
newsgroup to which this thread has evidently been copied. Still, no
problem. All it takes is a stoke of the finger to delete the email
from flakes, provided that they don't saturate the capacity of your
mailbox which, in my case, woud take more effort than most of the
flakes want to put out.
That said, I'm waiting for a response form NWS in Nebraska to see if
they can provide the data I need to start. While only a start, I am
sitting on the edge of my chair waiting to see the slope of that line
based on many years of records. Still, it's the weekend, and it will
likely be Tuesday or later before I recieve a respons from North
Platte, NE. Not to waste time, while it's not an ideal location for my
purposes, I'm also emailing the folks at Greemwich England for similar
data. Similar request is being sent to an organization is Germany at
Wettzell (a location that I will have to research on Google Earth, but
was supplied to me as a possible benchmark location by friends at MIT
-- Wetzell in Germany and Westford in MA form the baseline from which
the continental drift between North America and Europe is measured, at
at last count the separation of the two continents was measured at the
rate of 16.9 mm/year per MIT's Haystack Observatory publication dated 1
September 2004 and based on actual meaurements.
All I am out to get, having no financial stakes in this, in actual data
supporting the premise of if our planet is warming or cooling. MIT
cannot help me with this, so I am researching this on my own. To this I
woud only add, the hostility to research of this type appears to be
incredible, but mostly seems to be originating from outside of the
scientific community.
Harry C.
Kindest regards, Harry C.
