If they are so much in favor of induction coupling, they should solve
the electric toothbrush induction coupling efficiency problem first.
I'm curious: you keep going on about some electric toothbrush induction
problem. I got one of those philips sonicare TBs about 5 months ago
and it typicaly goes about 2 weeks on an overnight charge. What is the
problem with that? Are you in the habbit of brushing your teeth twenty times
a day?
The problem is that the energy into the charging coil is very much more
than the toothbrush receives.
Further, a much larger airgap is desirable for convenience and safety
and the energy drops off something like the cube or fourth power of
airgap thickness.
The key point is that wide airgap induction coupling is just barely
useful for devices of toothbrush power level. And drops dramatically
beyond that.
Absolutely, but a TB really isn't a great example as it is such a low duty
cycle application. Its technology isn't usefull for other applications.
Nobody is going to tolerate a car that only operates 4 minutes a day. :-)
Not to mention that no one is going to spend $20,000 for a toothbrush,
or use a 1 m^2 servo-controlled secondary coil assembly and GPS.
Sharper Image customers excepted, of course . . .
