There's only so much biofuel feedstock. Nuclear power is no less
expensive than wind (precise figures depend on technology and
assumptions as well as location). The price of hydrogen from wind will
almost certainly drop as technology improves, e.g., electrolyzers
become cheaper, as will the price of hydrogen from nuclear fission and
other, dirtier sources, some of which will be even cheaper (sadly,
because I suspect they'll be used).
Probably get a lot more mileage out of those kwh's from renewable
sources by electrifying some regional freight and passenger rail.
Get a lot more of your energy budget to the wheel, and can move a
lot more with a unit of energy.
But in the US, most traffic doesn't travel by rail any more.
Electrification may be practical on the Northeast Corridor, but what
would it do to the comparative economy of rail transportation in other
areas?
