oft-cited target of 6.5 percent. She hopes that HRL staffers can
eventually identify a "Goldilocks" compound with sufficient adsorption
capacity that will release hydrogen at 150 degrees C or even lower.

And here is where the researcher scribbles "and then a miracle happens" on
the blackboard at the end of a page of calculations.

Sure -- it's anything but a done deal. OTOH, researchers not
infrequently do find that miracle once they see the validity of a new
approach and start looking at alternative materials: carbon filaments,
say, rather than platinum. Only time will tell if this is another dead
end like onboard reformation, but I think it's encouraging that
they've exceeded the weight goal and gotten most of the way to the
temperature goal.

Momoda admits, however, that the hydrogen pickup rate is still too
slow; current materials might take 30 minutes to refuel.'

And are big, heavy, and require heat to release. None of these are good
things for a transport application. The one solid storage thing that I
thought was interesting was the borax powder based one, since you could
pump it in and out of a tank, and reuse the borax when depleted. But that
doesn't seem to be going anywhere either, and needs a very large tank. *

I just did some reading on it. Seems that among other things there are
serious cost issues:
