methanol.

I'm curios.
That's nice, but I already have plenty of knick-knacks :-)

Why this new paradigm that is not possible from where we
are at????

I don't entirely understand the question. As I have said elsewhere, the
attraction of methanol is that it has a reasonably high energy density and
can be used in both ICE's and fuel cells (although current direct methanol
fuel cells have significant problems, and methanol requires considerably
more changes in infrastructure and engines than ethanol). So it makes a
good bridge fuel to get from our current reliance on ICE's for
transportation power (with their inherit efficiency limit and their NOx
emissions) to fuel cells for transportation power. In short, it might be
able to get us from where we are at to where we want to be, if accompanied
by drastic reductions in energy used for transportation.

Bill Morse

What are ICEs? Thanks. Methanol fuel cells seem to have made significant
progress lately althought their use is only for laptop computers, so far.
According to Dr. Olah, the methanol fuel cells will be advancing quickly to
larger uses ... , but who doesn't say that about their pet projects?
