Two things: Olah says that gasoline pumps can pump methanol now, without
major modification. Methanol can replace petroleum for most plastic
manufacturing.

I wonder if the oil companies and the oil producing countries aren't gouging
for the last gasps of petroleum based energy dependence. It would fit in
nicely with the cozy friendship between Bush and the Saudis.
