You like wasting energy, don't you? Are you under the mistaken impression
that PEM fuel cells are energy efficient? If so, there is information on
the internet you really need to see.
I keep saying this, but I guess I'll have to say it again: in and of
itself, efficiency doesn't mean ***.
Let me give you an example.
Joe lights his house with inefficient incandescents. They release 90%
of the energy they use as waste heat.
Sue lights her house with efficient fluorescents. They release only
20% of the energy they use as waste heat.
Sue is making the responsible choice, right?
Wrong.
We should all be lighting our houses with incandescents?
Because Joe powers his house from the wind turbine on his farm,
whereas Sue powers her house with grid power from the local coal
plant. It does no one any harm when Joe burns his incandescents.
To ignore inefficiency is just ignorant. If Joe is converting 90% of his
electrical energy to heat instead of light, there would be a great deal more
benefit to the environment and to Joe's pocket book if he sold his excess
energy back to the grid to reduce the 'dirty' electricity by however many
kWh he can provide.
