Yes. While silicon itself is not dangerous, certain silicone (e on the end)
chemicals such as silane, SiH4 are very toxic. This and other related
chemicals are used in the manufacture of solid state devices including solar
cells. Arsenic, phosphorus and other nasties are also used. But, so what?
There is hardly an industry out there that doesn't use toxic substances. Did
you see 60 Minutes a couple of weeks ago where they showed the easy that
such substances unprotected in chemical plants might be attacked by
terrorists?
