auto designs one source of conservation

Part of the problem with oil consumption is that poor people or people
with low incomes (the majority of most populations?) cannot afford new
technology?

Most people are forced to drive older vehicles? If all vehicle makers
were forced to adopt similar structures as the computer industry (say
HTML), the same power plants, the same drive components, where all
parts are interchangeable except for the body parts, we could see true
lower costs, and the destruction of outdated technology.?

As it is now, the price of vehicles sky rockets, and yet it is not
logical. There are no performance issues, as all vehicles are limited
to speed limits despite their technological superiority over other
vehicles.

If we forced half of the auto and truck makers to ensure that half of
their vehicles or more all used the same standard parts (and stop
trying to create designs that costs thousands to repair) we could see
environmental change.

We could also demand that auto and truck makers give ample room in
their designs so that owners can work and repair their own vehicles,
using simple tools, and ample access areas.

I simply don't see how a senior on social security is going to buy a
$30,000 truck, or an 18 year old with no credit, when we have the
ability to produce vehicles under $5,000?
