However although 80% of people probably travel no more than 50 km/day

influences their purchasing decisions: if you don't have the range to
visit your grandparents every second weekend the electric car will
miss out unless it is only a second family car.
I believe if we reduced the speed of traffic that electric cars had to
keep up with then their range (and safety) would go up and their costs
would come down dramatically. Are we prepared to trundle along at
40-50km/hr (25mph-30mph) in a glorified golf cart?
I think if that's what it came down to: yes. This level of comfort
and covenience is much better than a horse or carriage and journey
times won't go up proportinatly: a lower speeds traffic density can
increase without incurring traffic jams and such vehicles will be
physically much smaller.
