Is that maximum range, or a distance that you can routinely drive
without worrying about damaging your batteries or sitting on the side of
the road with a dead battery?

Define 'lifetime'. I have a Jeep Cherokee that's twenty years old and
has well over 100,000 miles on it.

NiCd will store.
