Pricing real systems that can actually be purchased and looking at real
electric bills shows a payback of about 8 years with subsidies and a
cash purchase.

Home equity loans, which are about the cheapest loan you could get for
such a purchase, are more like 7% fixed, 5% variable, not anywhere near
2%.
