Be aware that there are a number of 'Torrent' induced cable modem
problems on record, mostly hangs (do a Google search for more detailed
information).
Linksys modems seem to be among the list of prime offenders, but cable
modems from other firms also have the same problem. The problem is
said to stem from overflow of the cable modem's buffer space.
There is a workabound that has to do (I believe) with sharply limiting
the number of concurrent threads that are allowed on your system, plus
there are other workarounds that involve the change of other operating
parameters.
This stuff is all over my head and I didn't even get involved in it
until my daughter's Torrent downloads repeatedly locked-up the modem
and cut off Internet service to the 4 other computers connected to our
Linksys Wireless router.
