If an 80kg battery pack were engineered that fitted flat in the boot
of the Prius it could contain 4.8kW.hr or energy if the battery was
60Wh.hr/kg NiMH batteries.
That amount of energy would provide a range of about 36km (assuming
about 13kw.hr/100km consumption of electricity).
The batteries could be made removable as 4 x 20kg packs so as not to
impinge on boot space or fuel efficiency for longer trips.
