Rail passenger traffic was in decline since WW2 till privatisation.
Since privatisation, passenger numbers have increased dramatically,
whilst the cost of running the system has fallen.
In the decade before privatisation, no new rolling stock was ordered!
Since, there has been the biggest programme of rolling stock investment
on record.
Is that a disaster?
Privatisation of electricity, gas and telecoms in the UK has been even
more succesful. Costs down, customer service levels up, prices down,
emissions down. What more can you ask for?
