If the energy losses aren't too much this idea might be worth pursuing.
Think of windy places without readily available water - after all
where there is wind there must be air.
A lot of grassroots opposition to wind-energy comes from the fact that
it is intermittent - you would need dirty power-plants (coal, nuclear
etc.) to make up for when the wind isn't blowing.
If the wind power can be averaged out at the source, then it can be
integrated directly into the grid.
