My son and I went to Muir Park (Redwood forest) in San Francisco
recently and climbed up the trail to the hilltop. To cut a long story
short by the time we got back halfway down the hill the sun had
already set and the moonlight was minimal. Surprisingly there was
some bioluminescence on the trail edges that helped us to keep on
track until we go to the bottom of the hill. There, even in full
daylight, not much of that filtered through the branches. Now we
couldn't even see our stretched hands. We weren't equipped with
anything and had to grope around. Anyway, just in case, my son
flipped open his cellphone to check if we could call for help should
we need to. Viola. The LCD screen put out enough light for us to see
the trail and we got out without further problem.
