No one has mentioned a large potential source available in many places,
"deep heat mining": http://dhm.ch/
Another source near the coasts the would be good for any country with a
long coast line, wave generation: http://www.wavegen.com/
A technology that many do not know is available for electrical power
distribution,
but is, superconducting wires and motors: http://www.amsuper.com/
American Superconductor has a very large wire manufacturing plant at
Devens,
MA, USA. They also make superconducting motors up to the multi-thousand
hp
range. Their superconducting wire is supplying power to the city of
Detroit, MI.
Also see, for superconducting polymers:
http://www.ultraconductors.com/
Geothermal is powering Iceland, and is available elsewhere, especially
the Pacific
Rim.
A good deal of the energy problems are the oil companies and their pet
governmental administrations, the Saudi Royals, and other well monied
factions,
seeking to preserve the status quo for the power elite. Many people
think $1. a gallon
gasoline is coming back, due to lack of reportage of the oil production
peak.
When the pinch gets too tight to deny, other energy
sources will perforce receive a much closer look. Perhaps a little
late.
I just wish that it would be sooner, so that things will not get
impossible for the
common man, but I am sure that there are those who would thin out the
population by
draconian measures, as there are those who gleefully profit from war,
the great machine
by which young men are ground into money, and those who wish to deny
the elderly and ill
social security.
