Quintuple the price of electricity?

Because little Betty Pensioner in Wingeville will turn off her
electricity to save money, and die from cold, and the Government will
lose the election, especially since over-65s form about 1/3 of voters.
(Regardless of the fact that she never bothered to insulate the house
or switch to gas -the tabloids won't care).

More genrally, Road User Charging will yield more feathers for less
hissing than very high Electricity Tax. VAT on electricity in the UK is
only 8% - the Government doesn't even dare increase it to the standard
17.5%, let alone the 400% or so of petrol taxes.
