Silly Question

I recently had to clean out the drain pipe from the kitchen sink. Not
surprisingly, the water drained much faster afterwards. I noticed that the
water was spinning very fast and a largish hole appears in the center so the
cross-sectional area seems to be much reduced. I have not attempted any
calculations but am wondering if there is any possible gain in power to be
had (in generating electricity for example) by using this well known effect.
Is it actually used anywhere? Is it worth investigating? This is only some
sort of intuition that there seems to be more power available in the water
flow under these circumstances. Incidentally you can make the spin go in
either direction by simply swirling it in the direction you want it to go
although it seems to want to go clockwise in the Northern hemisphere if you
leave it alone and just pull the plug. Maybe something to do with Corriolis
Force (sp?). Any and all comments would be appreciated.
