Even with conservation, the necessary generation requirements grow.
population grows but energy needs grow faster. Two people marry and move out
of the family homes, reducing energy loads in those homes but settle into
their own home and really do have a need to do such things as cook, keep
warm when not in bed, wash selves and clothes with the result that there is
a net energy demand increase.
Industry can conserve as well but often the essential demands of the
industry put limits on the effectiveness of this.
Conservation is great and necessary but it simply reduces the rate at which
demand grows. Hence it is important to look at the costs of various
sources- capital, fuel and environmental.
