No, they are not false economy. I will use my electric costs at home. My
average electric cost is 0.12 per kWh.
If I have a 60-watt incandescent bulb that will last for 1000 hours. And I
operate it for 2000 hours per year, my cost is (0.060 kW x 2000 hours x
$0.12/kwh) plus 0.80 for two light bulbs for a total of $15.20.
If I buy a compact fluorescent 15 watt bulb for $4.00, my cost after 2000
hours is (0.015 kW x 2000 hours x $0.12/kwh) plus $4.00 for a total of
$7.60. At the end of a year, I have saved almost twice the cost of the
compact fluorescent bulb. Incandescent bulbs are TOO expensive to operate.
