I was listening to the radio the other day and they mentioned the total
cost (in dollars, not lives) of the war in Iraq being around $170B so far. Previously I had been listening to Air Americas ecotalk and had heard about a company (MGE) that sells wind power so I decided to pull some data together and this is what I found.
MGE pays about $850,000 per windmill
The US has spent $170,000,000,000 protecting our oil interests in Iraq
The US could purchase about 200,000 wind turbines for that money.
Each turbine puts out about 660KW
The average power draw of a US home is about 1.2KW
According to the US Census Bureau there are about 116,000,000 homes in the US
200,000 turbines * 660 KW is about 133,000,000 KW
133,000,000KW / 1.2KW per home is about 109,000,000
109,000,000 is about 94% of the homes in the US powered polution free for what we have spent in Iraq to date.
See my data and sources in the followin spread***: http://www.wperry.net/WindPower.xls
Iraq is one of the stupidest things the US has done in years especially since it is obviously turning before our eyes into an Islamic theocracy allied with Iran. There are so many ways that money could have been better spent. I have yet to figure out what the American people are suposed to get out of Iraq? Are we safer? Do we get oil? Is it creating jobs? Is it creating wealth? Does it get to the bottom of 9/11? Does it reduce terrorism? Just what do we get for our billions? As far as I can tell, not much, It certainly is not worth the loss of life and the money wasted is criminal. Bob
Not stupid at all for the rich and powerfull interests which use
American tax dollars and military lives to control the area for
hydrocarbon sales to Europe, India and China.
The former southern republics of the USSR are sitting on a s__t
pile of hydrocarbon resources, pipelines are being constructed
to ship it to Turkey and Packistan, Unocal is heavily involved
and who wants to buy it ?
These people and companies only need the US and British taxpayers
to fund the invasion of Iran. .
