Well, I don't know how inexpensive it would be, but I'm guessing this would
cost a lot less than solar panels:
Charge a car battery and use that to run a small (and cheap) inverter. A
laptop isn't going to draw much current, even with three external hard
drives. Any small (read: cheap) inverter should do. I've seen cheap
inverters sold at wal-mart. The battery and charger might be somewhat
expensive. But if you are going to use this for several years, it will
actually be a pretty cheap solution. A fully charged car battery should run
your laptop for several days. (or at least one day, if you are constantly
accessing the external hard drives) -Dave
