I believe methanol fuel cells don't actually run on methonal. They run
on hydrogen, which is extracted from the methanol in a reformer. I'm
not sure what the left over is - should be some combination of carbon
and oxyen:
CH3OH -> 2H2 + CO
I assume the CO2 needs to react with more O2 to prevent giving off
deadly fumes.
I'm not sure how you could get this reaction to run in reverse. I
suppose a methane fuel cell might be easier to manage in reverse.
