50hz vs 60hz for generation and transmission

Hey all,
Although I was aware there are difference in motor, generator etc
design between 50hz and 60hz, I was not aware that there was a
sufficient efficiency difference between a 50hz generator or motor and
a 60hz generator. However according to this website
http://www.school-for-champions.com/science/ac_world_volt_freq.htm
there is. It also claims there is a difference between losses in
transformers and in transmission. I've been looking into this and based
on the website and my searches I think I've got a basic idea of why it
may be the case for generators, motors and transformers But I'm still a
bit confused as to why there is a difference in transmission
effieciency.
Could someone explain the efficiency difference? I think my physics
knowledge is good enough that I could probably understand a fairly
technical explaination.
Also, could someone comment on the accuracy of that website? Some of
the details seem incorrect from what I've read. For example, wiki and
other sources claim Tesla choose 60hz to eliminate flicker. Also, the
website claims the US transmits power in 240V, it is stepped down at
the household. I'm pretty sure this is incorrect and it seems to be
confusing the US 3 wire single-phase system with a 240V transmission
system.
If the website is all a load of crock or even if it's not, a better
website or series or websites is welcome as well :-)
Cheers all
.
