All this western hand-wringing and deep thinking about nuclear power is
wonderful!
Keep a sense of perspective. Over 50 countries currently have nuclear
reactors. China admits to building 2 nuclear power plants per year,
and has already sold a commercial nuclear power plant to Pakistan.
Japan has recently launched a major nuclear program which will lead to
a fuel cycle based on fast-neutron breeder reactors. The genie has
aready left the bottle.
Western countries have two options. (a) Get ahead of the technological
curve, develop better nuclear power plants, and sell them around the
world. (b) Mess around with windmills and photovoltaic panels, and get
ready to start making wicker baskets and leather flip-flops to sell to
rich tourists from the nuclear-powered East.
