man-powered water wheels. You could withold access to fossil fuels
from third world countries since they cant afford it anyway and they
have plenty of underutilised human power. You could tell them to push
turbines to generate power for their tiny elite class. They might do it
out of reverence for them. But that wouldnt sit too well with most
modern religions.
I am, however, sure that nobody used human (or horse) power to pump water to then use falling water energy, even before law of conservation of energy was discovered.
