Any opinions on nanosolar?:

I'd imagine any company that secures 100 million in
funding likely has something... but who knows.
They are apparently perfecting a new type of cell
using 'quantum dot' technoloogy. CIGS (Copper
Indium Gallium Diselenide). Apparently it's
intrinsically much cheaper to produce these
cells compared to traditional Si. They can use
a 'printing press' technique.
They are aiming for around 10% efficiency, and
$1-2/watt. Perfect for use of rooftops -- even looks
aesthetically better than old PV.
Considering economics is the biggest obstacle
to more widespread use of solar this is probably
a good thing.
My biggest concern is what the lifespan of these
new cells would be. Traditional solar PV is quite
robust in this regard and can last for decades.
