Yeah, but we're talking about much higher burn up rates (or the order
of 3 and 4). Simply a lot less of an already small volume of "waste".
The typical amount of waste, heavy in weight, is nothing in size. 3
tons of the stuff would be the size of a small desk. We are talking
about very SMALL amounts of spent fuel. ALL the waste in the world for
the last 50 years could sit in a large oil tanker. It's deadly for a
few decades but after that the most dangerous stuff is hardly that
active (still not good, but it's less dangerous)

Traditional recycling would involve remilling of all the material,
BTW. I was only speculating. The fuel pellets ARE broken down from the
rods, that is who all reprocessing is done.For a CANDU probably not
that much would have to be done to these pellets except reform them.
