Why do you think people bought cars originally anyway?
Most people over here bought cars because they prefer personal mobility to be
being constrained by the timetables of public transport.

My daughter lives in Bern Switzerland with her mom and when I arrive
in Zurich, I take a train to Bern and a tram to her house as easily I
drive to the airport in America. Actually its very pleasant by the
time I board the flight in DC for Zurich all the way through. Of
course travelling First Class helps immensely! lol. I love the
eurorail pass as well. I hae a city pass for the trams, and one stops
right outside her house - so, we can go anywhere as easily as driving
in the US.
