Actually, motorcycles aren't all that fuel efficient. I'm on my fourth one, the largest of which is about 800cc. Gas mileage seemed to settle in at about 45 mpg. on all of them. That seems to be pretty common from what I've read on the biker newsgroups.
Scooters probably do better.
