All these things are inherently lossy.
The big problem with microwave power transmission over great
distances is the need for a space-based reflector, and the
large scale of the system, necessarily with aperatures at least
on the order of sqrt(distance * wavelength).
The idea is generally barking mad.
I wonder how much microwave energy would be absorbed by atmospheric water vapour
?
