Florida Public Service Commission is already examining an application
from Florida Power and Light for approval to build two new nuclear
reactors at its Turkey Point power plant. In the same state, Progress
Energy are considering two Westinghouse AP1000 PWRs for a new site in
Levy County.
Unfortunately the proposed site (along with the rest of Turkey Point
facility) will probably be under the high tide mark before the end of
it's useful service life. 10y(ic)+40y(sl)+20y(esl) == ~2080.
Exact date is dependant on pace of GW which is exceeding nearly all
worst case projections. South Florida's underlying porous coral reefs
insures that there can be no sea wall type defense which prevents
flooding.
Fucking moron. It's 20' above sea level. Latest worse case prediction is 4'.
It is physically impossible for Greenland to be ice free by 2100.
Only the central site is built up to 18ft.. and that doesn;t cover
the 50 miles of cooling ponds.. (which are faily close to sea
level..) 18ft is no longer high enough to take on the new category
of super hurricanes and sea level increase.. Additionally the
facility is very close to the ocean.. I've driven past it on several
occasions. Waves would add to the storm surge impact..
(Note Florida keys/Everglades/Dade & Boward counties are nearly
flat as a pancake.. Excepting for certain man-made artifacts..
Landfills, expressways, etc..
Andrew's (92) eye wall, 8.2 miles in diameter, severest effects
impacted the communities north of the facility..
Despite that near miss it took out the backup water supply and a
coal generating facility at the same site.. Both reactors came
perilously close to melting down when the diesel backup generators
almost ran out of fuel. (within hours)..

Such a facility would not stand a chance against a peak intensity
Katrina, Rita, Wilma type storm (super cat-5, 30 to 40 ft surge+ 20ft
waves, eye wall >60 miles in diameter..) approaching via a seaward
route.
Googling "turkey-point sea-level" reveals lots of enviro-schizos believe
this 20' fabrication.www.ecofreakomusic.com/IWantToMockAlGoreAllNight.mp3
Water temps are in the mid to high 80's during summer months,
eliminating direct use of ocean waters as a heat sink. Use of those
cooling ponds will be lost at some point in the near future.
Discharge of hot water >90F into ocean enviroment is prohibited.
It seems your vaunted NRC document only raises this as a question, not
as a nail-in-the-coffin. The 18th can be raised, very easily. The
cooling ponds are there because the DON'T use the open ocean...they
don't need "50 miles" of cooling ponds. These area, THANK GOD, is one
of the best alligator preserves in the United States, BTW, so any sea
level rise in 100 years will, unfortunately, do away with these
channels and ponds.
The reactors did NOT come close to "melting down"...this is false, as
usual, as the core would of been well below melting point before the
aux-generators ran out of fuel.
