A £5bn solar power plan, backed by a Jordanian prince, could provide
the EU with a sixth of its electricity needs and cut carbon emissions

Robin McKie, science editor
The Observer (extract)
Sunday December 2 2007

"Europe is considering plans to spend more than £5bn on a string of
giant solar power stations along the Mediterranean desert shores of
northern Africa and the Middle East.

More than a hundred of the generators, each fitted with thousands of
huge mirrors, would generate electricity to be transmitted by undersea
cable to Europe and then distributed across the continent to European
Union member nations, including Britain.

Snip.....

I thought Northern Africa was busy worring about what to name Teddy
Bears!
It's hard to believe these jackoffs would be interested in any sort of
high
tech or scheme that might actually improve their way of life by
providing
jobs, electrcity and water. Of course, it takes Europeans to do it, they
arn't about to do it themselves.

Whatever you do, don't name the project Mohammad!
Sudan is more sub-Saharan Africa than North Africa.

The recent nonsense there with teddy bears reminds me that we once used to
call
these people 'savages'.

I'm beginning to think our forefathers had it right.

Graham

Keep in mind that Saudi Arabia has sentenced a woman to 200 lashes plus
prison time for getting raped. I think the moniker "savages" applies to more
than just Sub-Saharan Africa. It seems that the whole of the Islamic world
is mad. Maybe that's why they call their prophet MohamMAD!

I find it reprehensible to send billions upon billions to that part of the
world to get energy. We've done it for decades to get oil and now it seems
some are scheming to do it for solar. It's a big mistake that will come back
to bite Europe big time and do nothing but fuel a future Jihad which seems
to be a way of life for many of them. Europe already has enough problems
with Islam, this will just incite more.

The big problem is the balance of payments and the fact that the lower
classes in the Islamic world do not share in the wealth as we see with oil.
Futhermore solar, like oil is a form of "extractive" industry where
something of value is extracted from the ground, the sky or wherever. There
is very little labor content and very little way for the peasants to
participate, This ulimately leads to hatred, resentment, Jehad and
terrorism.

In my view, Europe is about to make another pact with the devil.

That's what *YOU* think !

Most europeans realise that the 300 muslims on our south border
are our neibours whenever we like it or not.

This project could be a good deal strategically, politically,
culturally and maybe economically but overall it would be a
huge and loud peace message ... even if somewhat utopian(/ic).

200 billion pound on 30 years is not that big money for Europe
less than 0.1% of Europe GDP (it would probably pay for itself by
capital gain on European assets and properties there, by promoting
confidence and growth in these area, ...). Even if it produce
no electricity, it would bring us closer from our south neigbours,
in a globalised world we cannot build a wall between us.

1 - not sure oligarchic western energy lobby will like it ?
2 - neither will our war lords
3 - these HVDC lines carrying 15% of Europe's electricity would
be easy targets for terrorists.

And if 1, 2 and 3 decide to work together ... :)
