disintegration of a Danish wind turbine which ended up a bit broken
after its brakes failed.
Wow - not something you can stop?
I assume the pitch control mechanism would fail first, causing loss of
torque control. Then the electrical braking (what generates the
electricity) gets overloaded. I assume there is a mechanical brake for
emergency use to actually stop the turbine.
Looks like one blade comes off and the sheer force disintegrates the
tower.
I hope that can't happen in the new generation of 5MW turbines.
