Even the best fuel cells are only ~ 50% efficient IIRC. Plus they
require the fabulously expensive platinum in their construction and
lifetime is not good.
My general experience is that the 'higher the tech' a proposed solution
to energy issues is, the worse it performs in real life.
Another less kind way of saying that is 'keep it simple stupid'. KISS as
it's known to most engineers.
