Counter-flow heat exchangers are 97% efferent.

Efficient.

You know, I drrew up a design for one around 30+ years ago. I hadn't
remotely
the resources to develop it though. I don't think the design has
changed much,
it's fundamentally quite simple.

drew.

Yes, that's how products are made. From (technical) drawings. I AM btw an
industrial designer by profession.

In the 'old days' they were called 'blueprints'. Is that a term you
understand better ? Nowadays it's done by emailing CAD files.

And the 'blue' prints smelled of ammonia when they were fresh. Ooops, now
I'm dating myself too :-)

LOL ! I used to do it too. I was one of the few 'engineers' allowed in the print
room because they knew they could trust me to handle the drawings properly and
operate the equipment correctly.

The real work needs to be done in conservation and efficiency, and the
science for that is simple. Changing attitudes (esp in the USA) is the only
real
hurdle here. Just getting an American to turn off a TV they're not watching
is a
serious psychological struggle.

Agreed. When I mention to anyone that I have a regenerative heat-exchanger
to recovery energy from hot water going down the drain, the number of people
that grasp the idea and see its usefulness can be counted on one hand with
room for the thumb. But when I tell them my average monthly energy bill
while all my neighbors are much higher, they wonder how I 'cheated' the
utility.

Ignorance is sadly everywhere.

No fraud or 'magic' gizmos. Just simple *work* in sealing
leaks/infiltration, insulation and some low energy appliances like CFL. But
I still keep the house a comfortable 68-70F (20-21C) in the dead of winter
(lower at night for better sleeping).

But that isn't 'high tech' or 'sexy technology'. Nobody's going to get a
Nobel prize for advocating climbing around your attic one weekend, or going
around the foundation looking for air leaks.

But it does the job ! And it's so simple.
